According to the New York Times article, “Disappointing Chinese Vaccine Results Pose Setback for Developing World,” the second vaccine for COVID-19 from China trialed in Brazil was not as effective as initially announced.
The Sinovac company based in China proclaimed the efficacy rate of the CoronaVac vaccine was 78 percent which is lower than the 50 percent efficacy rate Brazil had tested.
With rising cases of the coronavirus around the world, it is crucial that these vaccines be effective. Countries around the world have ordered more than 380 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine. They could look into other more effective alternatives such as the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which has a higher efficacy rate.
The Pfizer efficacy rate is about 95 percent according to the ‘Safety and Efficacy of the BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine’ study. The Moderna vaccine efficacy rate is about 94.1 percent according to the ‘Safety and Efficacy of the BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine’ study.
