State Spirit Competition
December 18, 2019
This weekend Pueblo East sent off their Cheer and Dance Team to Colorado State Spirit Championships hoping to bring home a great place in the competition! The competition was held in Denver, Colorado at the Denver Coliseum on December 6 and 7th 2019. Our cheer team was sent out to Denver on Friday afternoon, and the Dance Team was sent out early Saturday morning. After about a month and a half of hard work both teams were ready to show the judges what they had worked so hard for. The cheer team performed at 7:18 pm, then anxiously waited to see the place they had taken. The end results came in, the cheer team placed 30th. The next day the dance team nervously waited to perform at 11:54 am, and show the judges what 5:30 am practices had taken out of them. With a whole crowd of eagle fans cheering them on, later on the results came in, they placed 13th in the hip-hop category. At the end of the day State was an experience for everyone, all the blood sweat and tears was worth it. The teams can triumph in their victory for all the hard work they put in together. Especially the seniors leading their teams into their last competition, so to get a better look into the State experience here is what a few seniors had to say.
Jaelyn Trujillo (senior) Aquila for 4 years
Eagles’ Cry: How was your experience for your last State Spirit Competition?
Jaelyn: “My experience was something that I will always treasure. I love my team and I’m happy that I got to spend time with all the girls and put everything that we have on the floor.”
EC: What is it like taking a new team to State every year?
Jaelyn: “It’s very difficult because everyone’s work ethic is different every year, but it’s exciting to build a relationship with the new girls.”
EC: What is your favorite part about State?
Jaelyn: “My favorite part about state is the rush right before going on and being able to look around and see my whole team around me knowing we all have each other’s backs.”
EC: What are your practices for State like?
Jaelyn: “Our practice are very stressful and time consuming. There is a lot of time that we put into practice such as before school and after school, not to mention practicing on your own at home. There are many days where we struggle together as a team and some of us leave the practice room crying because we all get pushed to our limits. At the end of the day when one of us struggles we all practice until we get it right and when we succeed we do it as a team.”
Enedina Diaz (senior) Aquila for 4 years
Eagles Cry: How was your experience for your last State Spirit Competition?
Enedina: “It was emotional, but at the same time being with my team was the best feeling and the best memories to make.”
EC: What is it like taking a new team to State every year?
Enedina: “It is a fun experience to show new and improved skills each year.”
EC: What is your favorite part about State?
Enedina: “ My favorite part about State is having so much adrenaline and energy with the team to hype each other up for the time of the performance.”
EC: What are your practices for State like?
Enedina: “Practices were tears, pain, and early mornings with many laughs and crying, but all that hard work came to an amazing end.”
